Day 5 - Putting Life into Perspective

This is one of the most touching stories you'll ever read - and you can read it over and over again. There are many messages for our competitive society today. One lesson I teach my students is that instead of asking 'why do bad things happen to good people' we can make the world a better place by helping others who are challenged in life.

Day 4 - Shabbat: A Taste of the World to Come

Today's essay gives a deeper look at Shabbat - and it 'happened' to coincide with Shabbat! How about that?

It is written by Rabbi Dr. Akiva Tatz, who is also a phenomenal speaker. I used to go hear him speak, together with hundreds of young South African Jews, when he was lecturing in Johannesburg in the 1990s. He now lives in London. You can hear some of his lectures at

Day 3 - Be Happy

Today's reading is by Rabbi Abraham J. Twerski. His message of hope and positive self-esteem is so vital for our generation. I have had the privelege of hearing him speak a few times. I encourage you to try see him if he ever comes to your city or to read one of his myriad books. Take a look at www.12steps2selfesteem.com when you get a chance.

Have a good Shabbos.

Day 2

Today's essay is from the Chief Rabbi of South Africa, the country where I was born and raised.

Today I had an exciting day giving out 60 days books at Loyola University and UIC - Chicago campuses.

Interest is high and I'm hopeful we'll reach our target of 500 books being read here in Chicago.

Day 1

Today was the official launch of the 60 Days for 6 Million program here in Chicago. At a downtown law firm, Andrew Shaw shared the amazing story of how the program started and his dream for the future. I recorded his comments and hope to post them here shortly.

In the meantime, please read essay number 1 and share your comments.

Welcome

Welcome to the 60 Days for 6 Million Chicago Blog.

Each day I will post a thought, question or related source to today's essay.

I welcome your comments.
